Classroom information

In a Montessori classroom the child is allowed to experience the excitement of learning by choice and help perfect their natural tools for learning so that their ability will be at a maximum in future learning situations. For example: we encourage a brief goodbye and allowing your child to hang up their own coat. Even these small steps will increase their independence and self-confidence.
SNACK-each child will have their own snack day, on this day they may bring something special from home for a show and tell. This is the only day that toys may be brought to school. Please be sure they have their snack ready at the beginning of their class.
INFORMATION FOLDERS: the folders that you were asked to bring will be what we put information about class in. Ex- snack calendar, monthly newsletters
LIBRARY-we will go to the library once a week and the children may check out one book each.
VOLUNTEER HOURS-each child’s parents are responsible for 15 hours of time. Helping with field trips, class parties, book orders etc. will count.
FIELD TRIPS-we will be taking several field trips through out the year. We ask parents to help with driving. If you have signed up to drive just come when you bring your child to class.
CLASS START TIME-class begins at 8:10a.m. for the morning children and 12:00p.m.for the afternoon children. Please try to hold to these times. We use this time to prepare the room for the classes.
FAMILY ENVELOPES-these will come home with your child every Wednesday, unless they have an older sibling in a class ahead of them. This will contain papers from the school.
FUN RUN-this is an annual fundraiser for the school. The pre-school gets 10% of the final total! This is a fun activity for the children, please come! More info will follow.
SCRIP- You may now designate where the percentage of profit goes. We are hoping to generate enough funds so we won’t need to have a classroom fundraiser.
HELPFUL PARENTS-are needed for library time. Also, if you have any interesting hobby to share we would love for you to talk to the children about it.
-Please meet your child at the gate after class lets out, this way we make sure everyone gets home safely.
-Be sure to have your children in clothing appropriate to the season and easy for them to take off and put back on when they go to the bathroom.
-Please have a big enough backpack for your child so their work and any school papers get home safely.
-Throughout the school year we will request supplies for the classroom. If you have any questions about this please ask a teacher.
-Have backpacks, coats, jackets, and sweaters labeled with your child’s name.
We realize this is a lot of information to digest and can be overwhelming. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask.
Thank you so much for your wonderful children. They are a joy to have!

Hi_____________, and welcome to preschool! I hope you are as excited about the new school year as we are! We would like to let you know about some information for the beginning of the year.
We want to invite the morning class to our Welcome Day on Monday August 30, 2010 from 8:15 to 11:15a.m. The afternoon class Welcome Day will be Tuesday August 31, 2010 from 8:15 to 11:15. This first day of school will be for you and your parents to meet your teachers and get acquainted with your classroom. The regular schedule is 8:10 to 11:15 for the AM class and 12:00 to 3:00 for the PM class. Regular schedule will begin on Wednesday, September 1, 2010.
You will need a backpack large enough to hold a library book and a folder, (please no back packs with wheels), and four pictures of yourself, one for your workbox, one for your work card, one for your snack card and one for a special art project. Immunization records are required to be enrolled at school. (Please be sure to have your child’s name on their backpack and pictures). Please bring 1 box of kleenex and 1 Pee-Chee like folder.
This year in an effort to cut down on paper we will be posting our monthly newsletter and snack calendar on our preschool blog. If you don’t have access to a computer we will be happy to get you a hard copy. Go to http://stjoesmontessori.wordpress.com/ for all of our news. Also posted will be all the info you need for the school year.
We are busy getting your classroom ready and planning fun activities for the year. All of the animals have had a good summer. The turtle has been swimming, our box turtle has been munching rose petals, Frosty, the gerbil, has been zipping around in her exercise ball. We hope that you enjoy the rest of your summer. God Bless and we will see you soon.
